Psalms At Midnight by Rod Dreher

Should it be so mysterious to Mr. Dreher when the Psalms, being inspired by the Holy Spirit, point to Christ? I find his post puzzling.

A Western for SJWs

Triple dose of girl power (and one of them is an African-American, playing an ex-slave?) and anti-Confederacy (according to AICN)? What more could a SJW ask for? Actually a lot, like the native Americans indigenous peoples showing up and forcing them all off their land.

Edit. According to one of the comments, the villains are not Confederate soldiers but scouts for General Sherman. True or false? The women sound Southern, so Belles resisting Yankees in order to protect their home and land? I suppose that might appeal to some Southrons.

First Ghostbusters, now LXG: ‘League of Extraordinary Gentlemen’ Reboot to Be Female-Centric

Will men buy movie tickets for either? Never read the original comic, so it doesn't matter to me if the reboot is being more "faithful" to it. It's the supplicating attitude of the filmmaker that grates.

Her book does deal with prayer; it could be more useful than the typical Catholic chick book. I have no idea what her position on feminism is.

An Encyclical on Christian Persecution

Vatican II avoided dealing with Communism. Even if it were an effective instrument, I don't see an encyclical on Christian persecution coming out of this pontificate. Maybe it would be better to stop pretending that Islam is the "religion of peace."

The difference between dialectic and rhetoric, and when it is appropriate to use one or the other? Is there a place for name-calling in rhetoric

The Way We Speak Now by Gracy Olmstead

When appealing to a common standard of discourse, one implies that we are part of the same people who share that standard, along with others. But journalists and SJWs and others make it clear that this is not the case -- they have turned discourse into warfare by other means. Why maintain the pretense that we belong to one civil society? This is a struggle for power, and one must use rhetoric to win over the undecided in order to protect the good, not adhere to some chivalric code that is no longer relevant.

A Boomer Church

The Great Catholic Music Debate
August 9, 2015 By Bill Kassel
“Post-Vatican Folk” vs. “Reformist Retro”

The boomers may have some attachment to the post-Vatican folk -- how about those who are younger, those who didn't fall away from the church? Is that sort of sentimentalism combined with anything more substantial with respect to faith? And is the retention of post-Vatican folk necessary for efforts at keeping Catholics in the Church? Or should we be instead be praying for and encouraging gifted holy musicians to use the best of the old to create something worthy of expressing the propers of the Mass?

Could the Roman rite have adapted Appalachian music?

Adam DeVille on the Benedict Option

Would Alasdair MacIntyre Live in a “Benedict Option” Community?
July 14, 2015
For all the intriguing ideas that seem to huddle under the capacious canopy of the “Benedict option,” and for all my sympathy towards it, there are three lingering doubts about it
Dr. Adam A. J. DeVille

DeVille is probably correct that Dreher does not have the background in the practical science of politics (or in the subordinate science of economics) to consider everything properly with respect to the formation and maintenance of Christian communities. Still, I think the complete dismissal of Dreher is unwarranted.

On the Theotokos

The secret to the life in Christ, which the Theotokos experienced fully is, quite simply, to be with God, as He is with us.
