I remember after I had informed my spiritual director of my intention to leave the seminary, and he had passed this on up, I had a meeting with the rector, Fr. V. He asked me what my plans were, which were undoubtedly vague, and he advised me to "Go out and date." Perhaps there was more to his advice than I originally thought. If dating had been a priority, it might have given me more direction in my life, and the opportunity to confront certain issues... although it is true that without my education since then I would not have learned about localism and "everyday morality." I still would have needed to find something to do, but I wouldn't have spent 10 years going down a road that seems to lead to a dead-end.
