Be the Change You Wish to See in the World

Austin Ruse, The Escriva Option
What distinguishes the laity from the monastics? Fr. Louis Bouyer has written on both, and how both share the same Christian vocation, even if their rule of life is different. For lay people in (post-)industrialized Western countries living as wage slaves (whether they are aware of the degradation of their condition or not, despite the manifold material comforts they may have), their freedom to live a fuller prayer life may be curtailed to one degree or another. (Hence the objection from many to the laity praying the liturgy of the hours, or at least the two major hours, morning and evening prayer, because it is not "practical."
As for forming intentional communities -- this may not be necessary if one has a parish community; however in a parish one may need to fight the temptation to see one's self as being part of the "remnant." One should do what one can to help the lukewarm and to instruct the ignorant; even if these efforts do not seem successful, the witness to the love of Christ which should inspires such actions does matter. Nonetheless, one should strengthen the friendships one has with fellow Catholics.

Full Capitulation by the National Organization
While local groups can still exclude, many of those are under the influence or leadership of women. Will people increasingly leave the BSA for alternative organizations?

The Utility of Christopher Lasch
Curious that the author of the essay equates some of Lasch's positions regarding the middle class and economic equality with Marxism rather than a possible later development of moral intuitions which may have found some resonance in Marxism but were rooted in natural law.
Spooks: The Greater Good Trailer
It's been out some time, but I hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere. It opened in May in the UK -- how well has it done at the UK box office?

Fr Domenico Vitali, a Jesuit, has been in Japan for more than half a century. He spoke to AsiaNews about Japan’s ongoing debate over constitutional reform. For him,” It is not about being in favour or against war, but about arguments heard before the Second World War” based on nationalist rhetoric and honour. Even within the Church, “various groups have split to take different positions”.

A Profile of Owen Chadwick
Yet I’ve been sometimes repelled by a writer who seemed himself to believe a little in progress. He was no reactionary, and he played a direct part in the evolution of, for instance, Selwyn College, which under his watch admitted men, and then women, too, of other faiths or of no faith at all. What a bounder.
That's still rather progressive. Too much of a scholar, not enough of an educator and observer of human nature?
