Serial killer porn? With the stylish audiovisuals it is difficult for me to understand how NBC's Hannibal is not supposed to glamorize the villain; moreover, in this adaptation the hero is no longer the earnest good guy of Maneater (and the novels?) but someone who is obsessive and mentally ill. Hannibal Lecter may deign himself as being beyond morality, but how does the creator of the show, Bryan Fuller, want us to see him, and what does he really think of the character? If he is faithful to the novels, do we not already know that Hannibal escapes justice? If so, then aren't any allusions in the story to Hannibal getting his just desserts (or being cannibalized in turn) mere distractions, or worse, a form of artistic deception, an attempt to conceal what is really being done with the production of this show? Is "exploring humanity" or "human psychology" merely a rationalization? And what about those who are fans of the show? What does this reveal about their psyche?
