Sounds like she's unmarried -- one of the relative few who doesn't have a vocation to marriage or to religious life? Would she find some measure of that stability if she were married and had a family? Is she one of those academics who wishes someone would support her hobby, even though if the scholarship she seeks to pursue isn't so necessary for a university or "research" institution?
