After watching Young Adult, LJY and I were joking about red hardtop Mini Coopers because Charlize Theron's character, Mavis, drives one. Was it intentional on the part of the filmmakers to have her character's high school car be a VW Cabriolet? That did seem to be the cute car of choice for daddy's little princess in high school.

I first saw an ad for the coupe around the same time as the movie; it might have been during the previews in fact.
What to make of the design?

Can't they design a small car with good gas mileage and a decent engine?

RHK had a booklet for the new Mini Cooper Countryman at his house. He himself drives a Mini Cooper (S). I do like the look of the dashboard; I was a bit surprised when I first learned how bad its gas mileage was. But if I were to get a new car...

How does one transport luggage in one of these? (Then again, airplanes will be a feasible mode of transportation for how much longer?) The small, eco-friendly cars may be useful for short trips within the city, where parking is scarce, but they don't have much trunk space. No trips to Costco. Can they carry a week's amount of groceries? They are relatively inexpensive, but if I were to buy a new car, I'd still be tempted to go with a Camry or an Accord or a Civic. (How's the VW GTI?)
