What does the general think of today's army? He has an opinion about the repeal of the so-called 'DADT.'
If we expect national institutions to reflect the country in which they are found, then it should be no surprise that the U.S. army is beset by credentialism, the bureaucratic mindset and career bureaucrats, profiteers, and ideological fads. The high-ranking officers bow to the elites, in the name of the military being under civilian control. Social engineering? Arguably it's been around for a while, ever since we began the transition from being a federation of republics to a unitary nation-state? Then there is the replacement of state militias with a standing army drawing volunteers from all over. The Union Army ceased being a republican institution long ago, despite the myth of the citizen-soldier of World War 2.
