Daniel McCarthy, Is a Multicultural England a Catholic England?

Could there be a valid kind of multiculturalism in the UK? I do not think so; there may be some sort of pluralism (the existence of separate distinct cultures) but unless this multiculturalism was united in some form of apostolic Christianity (from which the "Church" of England continues to drift farther away), the reigning secular "liberal" establishment will continue to remain hostile against apostolic Christianity. The Catholic Church, as elsewhere, can only seek renewal and the conversion of souls, instead of endorsing some sort of political programme serving the public good.

What would have happened if England had not become Protestant? Would the English Church have been a sufficient check on nationalism, capitalism, and empire-building? (It seems to have failed to do so in countries that remained nominally Catholic.)
