With the Fires Raging in Greece
…as an example because at this time we identified as Roman, not Hellenic / Greek because to be Roman was to be a man of God and to be Hellenic / Greek was to be a pagan. This continued all the way into the 1800s until around the time of the birth of modern Greece in 1821…

"Romanians" not "Americans"
Romanians in New Jersey are building a new wooden church as a symbol of the 1918 unification of the Romanian provinces. The church is inspired by the architectural style from the famous #Maramureș region.

A Revival of Greek Identity?
I can't deny, it makes me emotional seeing the revival of Greek identity in Southern Italy after centuries of forced Latinisation.

Early Shift in English/British Identity?
I just read Susan Oothuizen’s brilliant revisionary book: she shows in terms of a longer duree that the English were more Romano-British than we think. But Francis Young’s reserves convince: why the lapse to specifically Germanic paganism? Why diff A-S tribes? Language shift? https://t.co/bVeM9AOill

Michael Anton Calls for a Truce and an Alliance Between Straussians and Paleos
As someone more on the paleo side of these old divides, I think Michael Anton is fair and persuasive here: https://t.co/N8SWke9mGp
— Helen Andrews (@herandrews) May 3, 2021
Lincoln and the DOI do not define what it means to be American; rather the DOI is understood properly within the Anglo-American political tradition which paleos claim to uphold, and is not the same as Straussian nationalism. Lincoln is judged negatively by that same tradition. One can claim that the Anglo-American political tradition is increasingly irrelevant thanks to deliberate mass miseducation and demographic change. Reds will have to decide whether they will and how they will defend their identity and culture. ("Find your tribe.") History and culture is passed on by a community or a people, and regardless of whether individuals are convinced by one side in academic squabbling over history, the DOI, etc., they need to find a group with whom they share a culture, and prepare for imperial collapse. In imperial collapse, Straussians and paleos will have to decide how much their view of history really matters, if they find themselves among people unsympathetic to their view, though I think that paleos will have, at least for a while longer, a better chance of persuading Reds.

What Sort of Weak English Identity Is This?
Reading that 54% of English people are indifferent to Scotland leaving I feel a profound sense of alienation from half of my fellow citizens. Their sense of Englishness is certainly not mine. If Scotland goes like many others I wonder if I will still identify with England at all. https://t.co/zhG8WUcvj4
