Take you zombie apocalypse or some other scenario where TSHTF and you have to struggle to survive. Extreme circumstances. What men have your back and whose back would you cover? Upon how many other men can you rely? With whom you can band? In a recent interview (I think this one) Jack Donovan alludes to the popularity of "disaster porn" - movies about cataclysmic destruction or disasters, and posits that one reason why people watch them is that they fantasize about being able to make life-or-death decisions when it counts. So we can ask ourselves a related question (as many do, tongue-in-cheek, on Facebook): whom do we want to be with us when the zombie apocalypse arrives? Who's got your back? I think if those of us living in the suburbs or the urban parts of megacities were honest with ourselves, we would have to admit that there wouldn't be many.
