Lim Soo-jung: 39 kg, but That’s Okay

Lim Soo-jung had to get her weight down to just 39 kg to shoot her latest film. The actress went through a punishing weight loss process to act as Young-gun, who believes herself to be a cyborg, in Park Chan-wook’s new movie, “I'm a Cyborg, but That's Okay.”

“The hardest thing about shooting the film was having to make Lim starve,” the director confessed. Lim endured a few months of eating only raw sweet potato and pieces of apple. On top of that, on days when she did not have to go to the set, she went to a fitness center to work out. The movie is released on Dec. 7.

Apparently, those scruples weren't enough and he didn't have that much of a problem with it. Really, is acting or making a movie worth that sort of disordered behavior? I think not. If the character is human, but has some sort of weird psychological problem then what difference does it make if she is fat or skinny or of a healthy/normal weight? Perhaps it would be better to make a movie about eating disorders--and not one that turns into a sappy love story, and not even a tragic love story, but one that deals with the problem honestly, and the impediments to a healthy psychic life that exist.
