I was re-watching the final showdown between Obiwan and Anakin in Revenge of the Sith; the dialogue for this crucial scene (like the rest of the first three episodes) is so disappointing. The images in Lucas's mind, as they have been put onto digital film, are spectacular and are appreciated by American fanboys, but the script that accompanies them is so weak. (The poor acting also has a role to play; it probably can't save good lines, at least not while one is watching the movie. Reading the script by itself, or recalling the lines may be a different matter.) Also, Anakin is dominated by "emotion" at that point of the film, but because of what I consider to be a poor exposition of the behind-the-scenes machinations, as well as the overt political events in the Old Republic (including the Clone Wars), his one-liners don't have as much impact as they should.

Yeah, we would all be better off reading Beowulf...
