Vespers in English

I heard a bit of the Holy Father's evening prayer service at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. on the radio this afternoon. I must admit that I did not like what I heard (the singing of the psalms); it was similar to what I have heard over at St. John's Seminary, though with organ accompaniment. While the music was slow, like some interpretations of Gregorian chant, I perceived it also as being lethargic.

Would a traditional Anglican evening prayer service sound better? I would think so...

Edit: I'm watching the re-broadcast of vespers now--the Basilica choir is doing a very good job with the polyphony.
