The creation of tomboys
How many tomboys are "created" because of interference with development (an excess of testosterone and so on) or "genetics" and how many are "created" because their fathers do them a disservice by raising them like a boy? A father may say that a daughter is just as good as a son, but if he raises his daughter to be a son, then how much difference is there between him and a father who shows his disappointment in failing to have a son? Little girls will want to please their fathers and win his approval, and if that requires that she be like a boy, then she will be like a boy. Fathers should instead appreciate their daughter's femininity, and seek to shape it through the cultivation of virtue, instead of being selfish.

I was a tomboy (still am, really, in geezerhood). My father had zero to do with it. I doubt that "excess testosterone" had anything to do with it. Some girls prefer to climb trees, do farm work, cuddle with teddy bears instead of dolls, and thumb their noses at frills and so-called femininity! Bah humbug...
Since it's not nurture, then it must be nature. Since that sort of behavior is atypical for women, then it's not far-fetched to look for atypical development as a cause.
It may be atypical in your world, it was not so atypical in mine. And maybe if people did not work so hard to turn little girls into dainty misses, it would not be atypical anywhere. Hm?
