Just Write the Book Already

See his response to Claes Ryn. His latest: The Benedict Option & 'Faithful Presence Within'

The problem here: the dichotomy between the Church and the world -- should Christians strengthen their parishes and local Churches? Yes. Do they need to withdraw from the world? If the society they live in is of the world, then yes. If it is am embodiment of secularism, then yes. But if it is not, but traditional but non-apostolic Christian? Then not necessarily -- alliances can still be formed, if not political friendships.

Has Rod Dreher ever found himself fitting in a traditional Southern community? Or does his impulse to be a moderate SJW preclude him from doing so? Or maybe he's just a rootless individual.

The Norcia Monks Are Hiring

Fr. Z: Interesting job opportunity with Benedictines of Norcia

They aren't the only religious community seeking to hire lay people to act as directors of communications or development or the like... how long can this be sustainable? Would a localized economy for a monastery or religious community obviate such positions, despite there being no one "in house" who is qualified (i.e. credentialed) for such work?

A Benedictine Considers the Benedict Option

‘Opzione Benedetto’ Turning Up All Over

One of the things that needs to be clarified is that while we may be part of some sort of social organization, whatever you want to call it, it is not a community. And I take the Benedict Option, regardless of how Alasdair MacIntyre or Rod Dreher may explain it, to be a re-assertion of the order of charity. One does not withhold the practice of charity from non-Christians, but in the political order one needs to determine who can be considered a civic friend and one who is not.
