Saw Fr. Oppenheimer in attendance at the Becoming One gathering at Our Lady of Atonement. That was a bit of a surprise -- at first we thought he was a Dominican when we saw him on Tuesday night for Compline. However, this morning I saw his face and recognized him.

Richard Heinberg and David Fridley argue in this week’s Nature that coal prices are likely to start rising much sooner than everyone thinks — perhaps by the end of this decade.

I don't expect clerics to be politicians or political economists or theorists; I do expect them to defend the Natural Law. At least there is no reiteration of the claim that health care is a right? Still, the Vatican needs someone studying peak oil and its impact on global society and writing a report for those who still assume that the modern welfare state can be continued indefinitely.
