Self-absorbed adults

Domenico Bettinelli has two posts highlighting contemporary attitudes towards children:
Nanny 911
Children, Out of Sight!

The article which inspired the latter:
A Glass of Wine and a Pacifier, Please

New York City is pretty much an adult playground; one wonders how it compares to Las Vegas in that respect. While there are some children-friendly places there (parks, libraries, museums, and such), for the most part, those who are attracted to the city usually cite its nightlife, pop culture venues (including musicals), and the things young single adults are usually attracted to (bars, shopping... did I mention its nightlife?). Perhaps only Vegas is more hedonistic in its purpose for existence. Without the casinos and everything attached to them, how big would Vegas be?

To be "free" and to live the high life in the city, free from all concerns, responsibilities, and attachments... what need have we for a chastisement? Our sin is our punishment.

In his post "Hyperparenting," Mr. Bettinelli comments on the article "A Nation of Wimps." Are some parents creating soft, pampered individuals? "I don't doubt it."
