It's not easy trying to maintain an open mind, or being skeptical or critical about historical claims that are difficult to verify. What sort of balance can be maintained between the two extremes, between accepting all human traditions regarding historical events unquestioningly and rejecting all that cannot be verified according to the canons of modern "historical science"? Or is such a balance praiseworthy in the first place?
