Spirit Site

This is the "Catholic spirituality center" for the diocese of San Jose. I heard Fr. Kevin Joyce give a homily at St. Joseph of Cupertino a couple of weeks ago... he was talking about the seven deadly sins, in preparation for a parish mission later in the week. I wasn't so impressed with his explanation, though he was trying to make it comprehensible to the lay people sitting in the pews. What was missing? Perhaps talk about what "spiritual death" really means, and why people should take sin more seriously. He talked about venial sins--what about the mortal sins that the seven deadly sins can lead to? He mentioned lust, but he didn't say anything about how gave sins against chastity were. (And this is something that needs to be repeated, even if the laity scoff at it. But what they need is not just the condemnation of the act, but the means by which they can resist temptation and become perfect, and this too, the Church provides, primarily through the sacraments. But who talks about the need for grace these days, and how charity cannot grow without it?)

Too bad we can't have some Dominicans preaching down in Santa Clara Valley.

The center offers programs for the Jesus Prayer. See the brochure it has put it. It also handles the Silicon Valley Theology on Tap. (The program for this year so far does not look promising.)
