and maybe a little class hatred as well... the new 90210, coming this Fall to the CW. With shows like The Hills, The OC, Laguna Beach, Gossip Girl--any show or reality show aimed at teens and young adults--are not our youth being reaffirmed that it is good and right to want worldly lives, full of things and toys, great vacations, trips to the beach and dinners at fancy restaurants, time for misspent leisure, and friendships and "relationships" based on the common pursuit of pleasure? You can argue that the original Beverly Hills, 90210, just like Sex and the City, had a positive image of friendship, as these friends stuck it out with one another for the length of the show's run. (Except Shannen Doherty's character. What was Brenda's excuse for not being around again?) So what if the characters engaged in fornication? At least they had friends and loved them. Isn't that enough to show they're good people?
Do our Catholic parents do anything to discourage their children from striving for this sort of worldliness?
