The Amish in Christian fiction?

While I was browsing through the Christianity section at Borders, I came across at least three different Christian fiction series involving the Amish. Is there some sort of interest among Protestant women in the Amish? Or do they have some sort of Romantic notion of the Amish, perhaps from watching Witness too many times? Some were romance novels, others did not appear to be such.

A list of the publishers and authors--
Barbour: Wanda E. Brunstetter (publisher's page)
Bethany House: Beverly Lewis
Water Brook: Cindy Woodsmall

Mrs. Brunstetter claims to have Amish friends; does she get the details of Amish life right? Can readers of these novels identify with the sort of austere, simple life that the Amish live? What are they projecting onto the novels? Apparently all three authors have grown up in Amish country and are acquainted with the Amish way of life.
