Pope Benedict XVI arrives in Randwick Racecourse in Sydney on July 20, 2008, during the Sunday mass to mark the end of the World Youth Day 2008. Up to half a million Catholic faithful began gathering in Sydney to see Pope Benedict XVI lead a giant mass that will provide a dramatic finale to a week of World Youth Day festivities. The final mass, at which the pope will announce the host city of the 2011 World Youth Day, came a day after the pontiff issued a historic apology, saying he was "deeply sorry" about the "evil" of child sex abuse by Catholic priests.
There is also the World Youth Day 2008 video archive. I am watching Saturday's dedication--Sunday's Mass should be uploaded fairly soon. I have not watched Sunday's Mass yet, but apparently it was one of the best large open-air liturgies outside of Rome. I think it probably exceeded the expectations of most tradition-minded Catholics. Splendid!

As I Sydney sider, I was excited to be involved in WYD preparation and to see and talk with pilgrims who joined us. Thank you to all those who made it at wonderful event. Thank you also for the photos you have posted for the dedication of new altar at St Mary's Cathedral during WYD. As my mum and I embroidered and made the apron he wore to protect his vestments, I am trying to find a copy of the photo such as you have with a good resolution to print. Would you please be able to forward the photo in a good resolution? God bless. Anne T
