Reaction at "Reason" Online to Ron Paul: Bob Meets the Press

For a libertarian website that lays claim to the name "Reason," there isn't much depth to the comments, unfortunately. If there really has been a Palin surge, then it merely confirms that high expectations of the electorate are unwarranted. Despite Congressman Paul's call for people to wreck the duopoly and vote for a third-party candidate, I think that most will continue voting as they have done so in the past, even if they don't really like the choices this year. It's a sad state of affairs.

To paraphrase Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven: "We all get what's coming to us."

Edit. Yeah, I'm in a lousy mood. I'm tired of the cheerleading and the Obama and McCain campaigns, the partisanship of supporters who don't understand that the platform of both major parties does nothing substantial to bring about social justice, sustainability, or relocalization. Those who call for a greater welfare state and embrace statism may chafe at the supposed paternalism of the Church, but their statism and their own brand of intolerant tolerance is much much worse. They really are the Mommy Party, or the "Babying" Party, for refusing to treat the citizens as adults. Is the Republican Party the Daddy Party? For all its posturing about freedom and security, no. It's not even the complement of the babying mother (which would be what? the neglectful or distant father?). It is what is probably always has been, if you believe the Southrons--the servant of the rich industrial elites.

Social conservatives have been duped by the Republican party through its claim to be the pro-life party, and the party of "family values." Democrats who criticize social conservatives for caring about children only when they are in the womb, and not after they are born are unjust in their criticism. But what has the Republican party, at all levels, done recently to promote the interests of the family?

Small wonder that Southrons like Dr. Wilson have had nothing good to say about the GOP ever.

I should probably refrain from reading political blogs for a while.
