President proclaims ethanol to be the future of America. Tonight both Dateline NBC and 60 Minutes have segments devoted to ethanol. Dateline interviews Vinod Khosla, co-founder of Sun Microsystems and investor in ethanol technology. Both 60 Minutes and Dateline take a trip down to Brazil, where ethanol derived from sugar cane has helped eliminated most of that nation's dependence on imported oil. Cars there have flex-fuel engines, enabling them to be run on both ethanol and gasoline. Here in the U.S. the focus is on corn, though there is technology being developed that will use cellulose and agricultural waste/by-products (and possibly recycled paper).
