Why I won't join the NG

Because it's not autonomous, and therefore not a true state militia; rather it's just another organization under the thumb of the Federal Government--states' rights is dead.

Clyde Wilson:
The character of the Iraq casualties reflects in part that the war machine has hijacked the National Guard—the defense forces of the States—for its imperial adventure. It is said that the Guard as an organization has been badly damaged. If I did not know that incompetence, short-sightedness, and cowardice are far more common among politicians than clever conspiracy, I might suspect imperial machinations here. As Murray Rothbard used to delight in pointing out when charges were dismissed as “conspiracy theory”: real conspiracies indeed do exist throughout history. In understanding assassinations, for instance, a “conspiracy theory” sometimes make more sense than a “lone nut theory.”
