House, season 5, episode 21
(source: Yahoo! TV)
"Saviors" -- the patient, an environmental activist, when told he should stay home in order to recuperate from a possible auto-immune disease, and pressed to do so by his wife for the sake of his family: "But why should he [his son] matter more than everyone else's?"
His wife: "Because!"
The activist: "Because he's biologically connected to me? There's no rational reason."
"He's our son!"
"And he's going to need to drink clean water and breathe clean air. I'm doing this for him too."
Could there be any better illustration on TV of abstract liberal universalism (as explained by Dr. Fleming in his The Morality of Everyday Life)?
