That should be enough of a sampling, I would think. Where's an expert on English accents when you need one? Can one still determine what the speaker's socio-economic background and geographical origin from his English accent? Has a different accent replaced received pronunciation as the ideal? What is prized by the lower and lower middle classes?

And what can be said about UK girl groups... I wasn't a fan of the Spice Girls; then again I wasn't part of their targeted demographic. The singing abilities of boy and girl bands tend to be very low, regardless of their country of origin--the UK, the US, Mexico, S. Korea, Japan, Hong Kong. It's all about idol creation, and instead of having just one idol, as with solo singers, companies can market a whole group of idols, with each member appealing to certain people. How many members of these groups have become successful solo singers?
