S.M. Stirling

I first came upon mention of this author and his 'what would happen if we lost modern technology' Emberverse series in the comments for JHK's latest post; since then I've stumbled upon a review at Bettnet.com.

Maybe I'd read the book, but at this point my post-dissertation time would be better spent learning how to garden...

I'm familiar with S.M. Stirling from his membership of a circle of military SF authors that tend to gravittate around the indie publishing house Baen Books. (The circle seems to have been founded by Jerry Pournelle, who inherited the discarded crown from a crazy Heinlein.) The bulk of Stirling's stuff is published by Baen.

"The bulk of Stirling's stuff is published by Baen."

-- not for the last 10 years, I'm afraid. Jim and I had a falling-out over "Island in the Sea of Time" and since then I've been published mainly by ROC (an imprint of Penguin-USA) and by TOR.
