Eat the Yolks

Liz Wolfe

CiRCE Institute Podcast

Konjoe tonight; they've gotten rid of their fried chips and their store-made ketchup, replaced
by generic fries (with skin) and Heinz. (Cutting costs?) I ordered my burger patty medium well - it tasted slightly better than medium, because it was less raw. (Burger patties are not like steak because the beef is ground and hence raw ground beef tastes like mush.) With the 'new' fries, are the burgers worth the price? I'm hesitant to say yes. A friend tried the pork belly sandwich and said the meat was tender.

Moonbeam Deserves It, Too

Does G-d have control over the weather or not? The atheists and secular humanists among those who believe in anthropogenic climate change would deny this. Droughts and other physical evils can be seen as chastisements - are Californians guilty of much? Peak oil, on the other hand, is completely under human control, unless you believe that He will create petroleum out of nothing in order to satisfy mankind's needs. The consequences of peak oil would be a chastisement of another sort, as humans would be 100% responsible. (Global warming Climate change, on the other hand...)

Redwood Bluegrass Associates: Keith Little and the Little Band

with Special Guest Blaine Sprouse: Tribute to the Stanley Brothers - this Saturday, January 25.

Keith Little & the Little Band is an exciting new collaborative ensemble performing a diverse range of bluegrass-based music. In addition to Keith, its members include Luke Abbott (fiddle), Josh Tharp (banjo), Michael Witcher (dobro) and Steve Swan (acoustic bass), familiar names to those who've followed the best in NorCal bluegrass.

Keith is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and one of the finest singers of his generation who first came to prominence with the Vern Williams Band, along with that band's backing of Rose Maddox, and then with High Country. Born and raised in the Gold Country, Keith left California to play in, first, the Country Gentlemen and then (for many years) Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder. He joined Larry Cordle, Glen Duncan, and the late Butch Baldassari in Lonesome Standard Time, and became one of Nashville's in-demand session musicians. Keith has played on Grammy-winning albums by Dolly Parton and the Chieftains, toured with Dolly and Claire Lynch, and had his songs recorded by Tim O’Brien and the Whites. Keith is an honorary Lifetime Member of the California Bluegrass Association, and a beloved instructor at music camps.

As well as playing in a duo with Jim Nunally, Keith Little is currently a featured member of the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience and the Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band. You've seen him at RBA concerts with both bands, as well as a member of Mac Martin's California Travelers and a Bill Monroe Tribute Band. For this show, Keith & Co. will emphasize their Stanley Brothers roots, and present a number of Carter's and Ralph's classic songs.

Blaine Sprouse has fiddled with everyone from Bill Monroe & Bluegrass Boys and Jimmy Martin & the Sunny Mountain Boys to the Dreadful Snakes and The Sidemen to Alabama and ... both James Reams and Peter Rowan at recent RBA concerts. Now living in the Bay Area, he's sure to provide extra authenticity and enjoyment to the music played by Keith & Company.

Spooks Movie

I had intended to blog about this a while back, and the link is somewhere noted. Spooks movie The Greater Good will begin shooting in 2014. Will the movie be given a better budget so it can the sets for MI-5 can be created to an appropriate scale for the sake of greater realism?
