Collegium Sanctorum Angelorum

The choice of the name for the new college may be rather much... what's the rationale? New traditional Catholic college in three years -- despite being "traditional," there is no indication that it will not be co-ed.

Catholics should be preparing instead for a postcarbon world with schools that will teach the appropriate trades and skills, complemented by some sort of liberal arts education, and this should be done at what is no considered the "secondary" level.

The Opposite of Inculturation

But rather the Hispanicization of the natives... How many Ibero-Americans care about this tradition now?

The company produces materials for literacy and character education to be used in public schools -- of course one finds liberal virtues (e.g. tolerance) or traditional virtues subordinated to the liberal nation-state and ideology. The state will promote and enforce the morality that suits its purposes, in opposition to the common good.

The temporary tattoos that so many children use today.... Corporations contributing to the coarsening of the culture. I don't think many would hear a call to boycott that company, and is there an alternative company with an explicit position against the production and selling of temporary tattoos to children that one can buycott? Probably not.

Sierra Hull's Latest

Msgr. Lopes is a hometown boy, from Fremont and originally from the archdiocese of San Francisco; in all likelihood a Californian neo-Yankee, now bishop of the Anglican Ordinariate. Would Italians welcome a German as their bishop, if he was not one of them in culture and identity? Why should it be any different for the Anglican Ordinariate. Unfortunately, it is likely that most members of the Anglican Ordinariate adhere to political correctness and play down any ethnic component of their identity.

How traditional are the processionals? Too triumphalistic and secular in sound... inappropriate use of horns/brass. And get rid of the organ. Does there need to be a reform of the processional rite/entrance hymn [introit] in the Roman rite and the Anglican Ordinariate rite?

Edit. And his singing ability? How's he qualified to become the bishop of former Anglicans? (half-joking)

Heard some students saying that they hate Trump and other comments; indoctrinated by their parents? Teachers? Mass media? And why? Because they think he is anti-hispanic due to his immigration policies? If so, do they understand that by identifying narrowly with the Hispanic interest, non-hispanic whites may do the same? And what will the consequences of that be?

The Depiction of Warfare in Star Wars

We should recognize that The Force Awakens is a rehash of the original trilogy, compounding the lack of creativity with the destruction of a third "imperial" weapon of mass destruction.

In the prequels, the warfare is worse than 2GW -- it's more like 1GW, with two massed armies clashing on the battlefield under the appearance of combined arms. It's a battle or mass warfare you'd see in a comic book or a RTS computer game, not in the real world -- men and machines rushing into one another on the battlefield. Is it more dramatic (and easier for visual story-telling)? Or does it betray the lack of a military background of the "artists" behind the product? One could say the same about the space battles in the prequels and the original trilogy -- ships engaging one another like 18th century ships of sail. (Indeed, the instruction for game play for the board games revealed tactics comparable to that era, all the way to the first World War.) Yes, there are small fighter craft thrown in the mix, but their ability to damage the larger spaceships seems inconsistent. Apparently no one in the Star Wars universe has discovered the use of nuclear weapons on the battlefield. (Unless the artists wish to claim that force fields and such are sufficient protection against nuclear weapons -- space fantasy, not science fiction.)

I wish someone more familiar with warfare would write about this.
