Scary, full of action, involves a family--I'm guessing that the success is due to the fact that it appeals to both men and women and one can bring children above a certain age to the movie...

It was bad enough that the first one came into existence. Why make a second one? There are some really sick individuals in Hollywood, and this one makes me, as a guy, even more p-ed off, because it presumably indulges in the torture and killing of women (though from the spoilers I read at Movie Spoilers, they do torture a Japanese girl in the first Hostel). I remember last year, when there was two or three different crime/drama shows dealing with serial killers and psychopaths (only one is left, Criminal Minds on CBS, the one on Fox was cancelled, and I think the other was on cable) that one critic complained of the depiction of violence being done to women. Having a slasher/horror movie where men and women die in equal numbers is bad enough, but one that is focused on the torture and mutilation of women? Is this some sort of sick backlash against feminism? Makes me want to boycott all future Quentin Tarantino movies and never to buy Kill Bill (not that I was really thinking of doing it in the first place, even though it was a tribute to HK and Japanese movies, I still thought it was a bit too... Americanized. Everyone is entertained by Gordon Liu's portrayal of the Kung Fu Master in part 2 though. Maybe I'll get one of his classics, I think he made some movies for Shaw Brothers as well.]

Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics both are launching new white goods brands
this month, which incorporate a design of a fashion artist and a drawing of a painter.LG Wednesday showed off its premium refrigerator brand named Art Dios, which is covered by flowery patterns drawn by Western-art painter Ha Sang-rim. It is the first time for electronics makers to mass-produce artist-made appliances, though there have been special promotional sales for limited quantities.
``We want to offer consumers a new concept, dubbed gallery kitchen,'' said Lee Young-ha, chief of LG's household appliances department. ``We will sell the new products in foreign countries too, starting from markets where we had favorable consumer responses.''
Samsung, LG's rival, is also preparing the launch of Andre Kim-label washers and refrigerators later this month. Kim, Korea's most famous fashion designer, has been working with the company in the special project since April.
``Not only the home appliances, more and more electronic products will take artistic designs,'' said LG's vice president of marketing Han Sung-hun. ``We are also about to sign a similar contract for mobile phones.''
The flowery refrigerators will be about 30 percent more expensive than same models with plain exterior, with crystal embroideries hand-crafted into the front panel, the company said. Still, LG expects that one in four buyers will select it, which means about 40 percent of fridge sales will be made with the premium product.
Last month, LG tested the potential of the designer-made goods in London where it consulted local designer Tricia Guild for the exterior of washing machines. At the time, only 200 units were manufactured in red and were sold out almost immediately.
Samsung said their Andre Kim brand will have a lineup of refrigerators, kimchi refrigerators and washing machines. The company said Kim has given the patterns and color samples, while the actual product design is done by its staff members.
