That is the famous line from Satre's No Exit. What did Sartre really mean by this? There is one way that it can be understood to be correct -- the enemy works very hard to divide people from one another and to sow discord and enmity, and to bring about misery. We can see this often in relations between husbands and wives. When both are in active rebellion against God, can it be too long before they are led to bcome a burden rather than a help for their spouse? After all, the enemy will probably seek to find a way to set husband and wife against each other. In a society without shame or laws governing marriage, should it surprise us that many seek divorce? Even if they try to justify it based on immaturity or lack of preparation, or their failure to find their 'soulmate,' how often is a divorce the result of one or both spouses failing to strive to be virtuous?
