Moffat's Crowning Jewel?

Or will he continue to be a letdown for fans of the classic series? Is there anything that can be done to salvage nuWho? I prefer the old Doctor, who was, as one might expect, more of an old-school Brit, stoic, stiff upper lip. After the relaunch, he's become more "human" (incorporation of this into the canon was even attempted earlier with the botched Fox movie) -- he gets lonely and is a bit more emo, though it hasn't gotten to an absurd CW level yet.

If Christopher Eccleston had agreed to make an appearance, would the episode have been better?
