*spoiler warning*
Most of the movie the story is rather quiet and restrained, until the ending hints at what a meat-grinder trench warfare was. Journey's End is a sad reminder of the criminal fratricide waged on behalf of imperial capitalism, partially laying the groundwork for the subsequent rise of communism, national socialism, and "totalitarianism," along with World War II. A relevant movie for the centenary for the end of the "Great War" and as we are still dealing with the fallout in Europe.
The movie will most likely be too slow and talk for contemporary audiences but it is based on a play, so I am guessing it does not go beyond its source material, nor does it add any additional combat sequences. The story and dialogue are necessary for the emotional response the play is trying to produce -- but I don't think contemporary audiences will appreciate it.
