At least the Roman persecutors would just settle on killing you and your family after some physical tortures or perhaps attempted rape. Now your enemies threaten to take away your livelihood and to indoctrinate your children against your beliefs, and even if you beg for red martyrdom they won't give it to you.
Submission is not an option.
We should be loathe to impose our moral values and police the behavior of others who do not wish to be a part of our community, but they should not have the power to destroy our culture either. Separation is the only peaceful alternative left.
