Ground Zero for Reform?

After the personnel change-up at Newman Hall, I was pleasantly surprised to see this event advertised on Facebook - Learn Chant with Fr. Samuel F. Weber, O.S.B. at Newman Hall. It is an initiative of the Benedict XVI Institute for Sacred Music and Divine Worship (FB). How many locals (Cal students and residents of Berkeley) will be in attendance? Those who have "progressed" beyond the liturgical traditions of the Roman rite may not have any reason to attend, but will they raise a stink about this?

Doing the Work of a Bishop

Bishop Michael Barber has made some changes in personnel for the Newman Hall/Holy Spirit Parish near Cal. The Paulist fathers still have care of the apostolate/parish - there is a long history of the Paulists serving the Newman Hall, but I'd rather see the bishop invite the Dominicans to take over. Such an important locus of evangelization and outreach would be in better hands with the Dominicans. LGBT still has a presence there. In the past the Paulist Fathers were linked to Americanism. If the priests at Newman Hall are representative of the order, the order is "liberal."

As for "renovating" the modernist building, especially its interior - both inside and outside the sanctuary could be adorned with icons and mosaics. What else can be done?

There is a group for the Cal Newman Alumni - any "conservative" Catholics in the bunch, or did they sign on to the leftist, social justice program?
