The Norcia Monks Are Hiring
They aren't the only religious community seeking to hire lay people to act as directors of communications or development or the like... how long can this be sustainable? Would a localized economy for a monastery or religious community obviate such positions, despite there being no one "in house" who is qualified (i.e. credentialed) for such work?

Recognizing the Reality about People
Would Dr. Fleming, in principle, support the use of rhetoric in dealing with such people and rendering them politically ineffective for the sake of the common good?
His essay: Put Out More Flags
Compare with Rod Dreher and those commenting at his thread: Driving Old Dixie Down. Is a significant difference in sociosexual status a major underlying cause of the difference in opinion? Counterfeit charity that is really just Yankee universalism seeking to impose itself on all? Being an excessive people-pleaser or not wanting to offend others is not the same as charity.

An Uhmerican Prelate
Crisis Magazine, Sinking Again
It would be difficult to find a group or cult that indulges in fantasy more than TFP. American nobility? Don't ask the deracinated about what is required to defend civilization, which cannot exist without a rooted community. I'll side with John Senior over critics of the Catholic ghetto such as Mr. Horvat. It is unfortunate that Crisis is publsihing articles by TFP members, even if
only online.
At least there is this article: Norcia Monks Rebuild the Foundations of Christian Culture by R. Jared Staudt

A Surprise to Me
In Do Fathers Matter?, [the author Paul] Raeburn, a former chief science correspondent of the Associated Press, found that “researchers expected mothers to be the most important parent in kids’ language development because mothers usually spend more time with their children, but it turned out that the opposite was true. The science shows a clear correlation between fathers and language development.I, too, would have thought that women would have a significant role to play in language development, given the time they spend with infants and how talkative they are in general.
The explanation? From the Washington Post review (since the article in The Times is subscription only):
In the arena of early childhood, Raeburn looks at research on children’s language development in middle-class and poor families. There, fathers are not only important — they are more important than moms. How so? Mothers in these families typically spend more time with the children, which allows them to use words the kids already know. Since fathers are less attuned, they use broader vocabulary, which stimulates learning. The same holds true when dads put kids in unfamiliar situations, encouraging creative problem-solving.

Something to supplement this post about Inside Out.
Novaseeker has some good observations:
I’ve seen this with my own son. He has no issues listening to me and getting along with me as a father. He does what I ask (maybe not that very second, but he does it in the next period of time), and we don’t really have fights or friction. But with his mother, it’s a totally different story, because she tries to parent him like he’s still a small child – lots of control, lots of micromanagement, lots of lecturing. This doesn’t work at all with a teenage boy – at least not in most cases. You need to set the tone and set the expectations, and have accountability if they are not met, but you can’t micromanage, and, as a woman at least, you can’t bully. They will make mistakes, and they will suffer the consequences of those mistakes – that is a part of the process of growing up. Many women seem very hard-pressed to deal with teenage boys who are more masculine (boisterous, pushy, pushing boundaries, etc.), as compared with the more compliant feminine type of boy. I don’t think they realize very well that their ability to parent differs when the kid is 16 from when the kid is 6. You can’t just “take stuff away” as a punishment and expect the same results you got when they were 6. It’s like there’s only one tool in the parenting toolbox or something.

SDG Reviews ‘Inside Out’
How does the dad not look like the typical doofus that Uhmerican mass media loves to depict? And is there too much emphasis on subjectivity for males to find entertaining? Even if we take it as an accurate representation of the fact that men generally have lower "emotional intelligence" than women, the way it is done is seems misandrist, holding men up for ridicule and ignoring the strengths of men and what they alone can offer as fathers.
