Looking through the results for Orthodox churches, I came across the website for St. Mark's in Dallas. A picture of its iconostasis. My first thought is that Roman-rite Catholics should patronize a revitalization of church architecture, but this shouldn't be done until we have recovered a better sense of what parish life should be like, and this requires that we reconsider how big our parishes should be. While the Diocese of San Jose is trying to raise money for the establishment of a new parish (which will serve perhaps 5000 people), Eastern Christians have smaller communities, so small that the priest knows every member by name. Yesterday, Fr. A was able to pray for everyone receiving communion by name. (Mom's favorite Fr. M was concelebrating.) This seems proper for someone who is supposed to be the spiritual father of the community. What can the American Church do to reform parish life? Is it prohibited from doing so because of the financial costs?
