Fool me once, shame on you

fool me twice, shame on me.

Evidently the President's true beliefs and nature come out, and we've been played by a smooth political operator. (Unless his defenders want to argue that he's ignorant of Plan B's abortifacient power.)

Even the website for Plan B admits that it can prevent implantation of the zygote:

There are many misperceptions about emergency contraception (EC) and how it
works. It is important for patients to understand that Plan B® is similar to a birth control pill and is believed to act as an EC by:

Preventing ovulation

Preventing fertilization by altering tubal transport of sperm and/or egg

Altering the endometrium, which may inhibit implantation

Of course, this information is available to pharmacists and to prescribers, but not to consumers. Pretty slick, huh.

From the transcript for yesterday's press conference:

Q Thank you very much. Mr. President, some pro-life groups are worried that your choice of FDA Commissioner will approve over the counter sales of Plan B, a pill that, they say, essentially can cause early-term abortions. Do you stand by this choice, and how do you feel about Plan B in general?

THE PRESIDENT: I believe that Plan B ought to be -- ought to require a prescription for minors, is what I believe. And I support Andy's decision.

The president's nominee, Andrew von Eschenbach, has said that he would support making Plan B an OTC drug. (See Robert George's statement on his nomination here.)

So much for the "vote for the lesser of two evils argument"--too bad Jim Webb isn't running for the presidency. And we're supposed to trust the Republicans as the "party of life" after this?

If the voters had had more insight into the character of George W. Bush, would they have voted for him in the first place?

So he nominated John Roberts and Samuel Alito to the SCOTUS--makes one wonder if their pro-life stance is just a plus, and they were really nominated for other positions. Sure, one can still interpret their nominations as the president's keeping his promise to his supporters, but what does one make of his choice of head for the FDA and his own words then?

I wonder if Dr. George will have a response.
